LAWTON — U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Lanier Patterson said he wasn’t surprised to learn his ex-wife and her boyfriend had been arrested on complaints of dealing marijuana out of her Lawton home. Nor was he surprised to hear it was his 11-year-old son, Da’Tric, who called police.

"He had mentioned the situation over the Thanksgiving break,” Patterson said in a telephone interview with The Oklahoman on Wednesday from Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. "I told him, ‘If you ever feel like you’re in danger you need to call 911.’ So when I heard it happened, I knew right away he must have called …

"I’m very proud of him.”

Patterson, 33, plans to travel to Oklahoma next week in hopes of gaining full custody of his son, who also has a 1-year-old brother, Tyson Cruise.

Both boys were placed in state Department of Human Services custody Friday after the arrest of their mother, Jennifer Lynn Patterson, according to Lawton police Lt. Todd Palmer. A third child, the 4-year-old son of Jennifer Patterson’s boyfriend, was also taken into state custody.

Jennifer Patterson, 33, and her boyfriend, Michael Dewayne French, 25, remain jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail. They were charged Monday in Comanche County with unlawful drug possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Comanche County District Attorney Fred Smith said more charges "might be forthcoming.”
