Q95 has let the dog out.

Jimmy “Mad Dog” Matis, the radio station’s longtime on-air personality, was taken off the air Jan. 7 when his contract was not renewed.

“They just said, ‘We’re going to go in a different direction,’ ” said Matis. “My direction was out the door.”

Matis, who worked for Q95 (94.7-FM) for nearly 25 years, said he started as a morning personality in 1985 on “The Bob & Tom Show” after Bob Kevoian saw him perform at the former Downtown club Comedy Connection.

Matis has been replaced in the 3 to 7 p.m. slot by Dave Gunner, who hosted the station’s Indianapolis Colts’ pregame show Saturday with WNDE-AM (1260) personality Mark Patrick.

Patrick, a former personality on “The Bob & Tom Show,” recently replaced John Michael Vincent, known as JMV, on WNDE.
