Meet Polaroid’s Newest Creative Director

I just got here. The show floor doesn’t even officially start until Thursday (tomorrow’s press day). And yet, immediately upon checking my email after five hours in the air, my mind is blown. The two best press releases so far, in no particular order: “TASER’s solution to kids “sexting” and driving while texting debuts at CES” and “Lady Gaga Named Creative Director for Specialty Line of Polaroid Imaging Products.” I’m having trouble deciding which is my favorite.

To get this out of the way–no, Taser has not rigged a stun gun to zap randy, distracted teens. The folks at Taser reassure us: “The MOBILE PROTECTOR and the DRIVER PROTECTOR are not stun guns; they’re new TASER products debuting this week that give parents a way to keep their children from dangerous activities and influences.” And that’s about it–I smell a shameless promotion. From Taser? Never would have thought.

And as for Polaroid and Lady Gaga, Gaga says:

“I am so proud to announce my new partnership with Polaroid as the creative director and inventor of specialty projects,” said Lady Gaga. “The Haus of Gaga [emphasis mine] has been developing prototypes in the vein of fashion/technology/photography innovation–blending the iconic history of Polaroid and instant film with the digital era–and we are excited to collaborate on these ventures with the Polaroid brand. Lifestyle, music, art, fashion: I am so excited to extend myself behind the scenes as a designer, and to as my father puts it–finally, have a real job.”

We’re not sure if this means bubble-clad photo-sticker printers or anti-paparazzi flash shields (or both)–the release is again scant on details. Those PR folks, always keeping us guessing.

Stay tuned for more on these hot developments and more–the fun begins tomorrow. CES!
